History and Story: Part 1

Why we should learn Electrical Machines ??
(especially when I really don't like it at all)

First of all, is it necessary that all students should learn Machines as a compulsory subject??

I personally think, NO, not required and it should be optional for those who are interested. However, in our education system, if you have that in your syllabus, it is better to know it properly to save all our lives and even for future if you have to work in industry or even in universities.

Secondly, Let's keep in mind that: Our mistake should not cause damage or harm to others' life

i.e. NO TIME TO SAY SORRY for your mistakes once you switch ON (in Machines Lab) so.......

know your responsibility and act responsibly

History and Story

The students mentioned in the team below were Diploma students who were taught by Mrs. Asha Sharma, Dr. Sudhir Bhil, Prof. A. C. Jain, and I used to be like a regular guest lecturer for every Machines course of Sharma Madam (That is how we call her) as I enjoy teaching Machines. I don't know if that is harassments session for most of the students (if it is 2 hours' session) but some enjoy it with us.

The team of Onkar was one of such group of students who were enthusiastic about working in lab and also enjoying if anything goes wrong because of their mistakes, which I tried to formulate in form of a manual for other students who don't like Machines or even otherwise for any machine lover.

The idea was any student who want to work in OUR machines' lab (that is how we call it) should be able to manage himself/herself using the steps in the manual. However, it should not be a blind obedient ardent follower but a curious question should be raised WHY I am asked to do it this way and not that way?

What will happen if I do not follow the instructions?

(Of course, you will be removed from the lab if Wagh Madam, Bhil Sir, or Mayekar (Lab assistant but more like a guardian for students working in lab) is around) but a technical reasoning is important to make them realize what is the COST of their mistake in Electrical machines when we are playing with 230V, 3-ph, 1-ph, 50Hz, AC supply or 230 V, DC supply with 10-50 A, AC or DC current. The Diploma students who worked till 2009 in Machines Lab would always remember the terror of Prof. A. C. Jain and the Degree students would remember the strict discipline of Prof. A. K. Mahale. The First Instruction: Your experiment with incomplete understanding should not cause any harm to your own student friends working in the lab The Second instruction: Your life is of course very important but our lab equipment and machines are also important after human life so in any accident, first save your own life, your friends', and then if possible, save our lab equipment, if you can :-) The Third instruction: NO Switch should be turned on unless subject teacher is physically present with you on given experiment table. NO Sorry will be entertained unless you have permission to switch on. (We are very strict about it while handling 30-36 students at a time with most of the time 6 tables ON having maximum 5-6 students per group). so again......

i.e. NO TIME TO SAY SORRY for your mistakes once you switch ON (in Machines Lab) so.......

know your responsibility and act responsibly
